The DecLaRe Toolbox for Eastern West Africa

This toolbox was developed in the framework of the DecLaRe project funded by the German Government via its Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (formerly BMBF) during the period 2023–2026.

The aim is threefold:

  1. Providing digital online tools based on open source software that allow for ex-ante identification of intervention zones for agricultural innovations in eastern West Africa and potential micro-nutrient deficiency in humans in northern Ghana.
  2. Providing a deposit for spatial data that were collected within the project framework for later public use.
  3. Providing geo-spatial tools that can be used for training purposes in the framework of the partner institutions and other interested parties.

The conceptional framework was developed by the Institute of Soil Science and Land Evaluation at the University of Hohenheim, Stuttgart, Germany and realized by TerraGIS Ltd., Seattle, USA. Other partnering institutions were: UDS, Tamale Ghana; Université de Parakou, Benin; WASCAL, Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso; Universities of Kassel and Göttingen, Germany; and PIK, Potsdam, Germany.

We hope that the provided tools support the agricultural and institutional development in West Africa, specifically in the partner countries Benin and Ghana and find wide public use.
